Maryland's Chris Ryland kicked four field goals and Fresno State quarterback Jake Haener passed for 139 yards and a touchdown to lead the National team to a 27-10 victory over the American team in the Senior Bowl on Saturday. Haener, a Monte Vista-Danville alum who was named the game's MVP, delivered a 44-yard touchdown pass to Stanford receiver Michael Wilson in the fourth quarter. Haener thrived on a short-handed quarterback situation for the team, completing 12 of 19 passes after setting a Fresno State career record with a 68.1% completion rate.

"I just wanted to come out here and get a win with the guys and cap off a really good week," Haener told NFL Network. "Just have a really good week and get the win. "We found a way to get the win and that was fun." Haener missed four games with an ankle injury this season but returned to help finish off a nine-game winning streak for the Bulldogs. Like the other quarterbacks in the game, he's trying to improve on mid- to- late-round draft projections. "I love proving the doubters wrong," Haener said. "I love the motivation. Kent State safety Dean Clark is heading out west. The Mountain West to be exact. On Tuesday night, the former Massillon Tiger announced on his social media page that he is transferring to Fresno State. Clark, who played four years at Kent State, entered the transfer portal in early December following the departure of former Kent State head coach Sean Lewis, who joined Deion Sanders in Colorado as offensive coordinator. Clark has two more years left of eligibility. Other schools he was considering were Arkansas State and Ohio.

Clark had a breakout season as a junior in 2021 when he led the Golden Flashes with 116 total tackles, earning him All-MAC honors. Prior to this past season, Clark had surgery on his Achilles tendon, which sat him out for most of the season. He made his return on the field on Nov. 9 against Bowling Green, where he registered three tackles. Then in his final game, against Eastern Michigan, he recorded four total tackles. The Golden Flashes ended their season 5-7. For his career at Kent State, he finished with 157 total tackles, five pass deflections, one interception and one forced fumble. - Akron Beacon Journal

Jordan Mims rushed for a career-high 205 yards and two scores, Jake Haener threw two TD passes and Fresno State completed the biggest in-season turnaround in Football Bowl Subdivision history with a 29-6 victory over Washington State in the LA Bowl on Saturday. Fresno State - which won the Mountain West Conference title - is the first team to get to 10 wins after dropping four of the first five. The Bulldogs (10-4) were 1-4 in early October before winning their final nine games. Mims accounted for 232 all-purpose yards and outgained Washington State, which had 182 offensive yards. Both of Mims' touchdowns were on direct snaps out of the Wildcat formation.

Early in the second quarter, the senior went 4 yards around left end to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 advantage. In the fourth quarter, he carried it 2 yards up the middle to make it 29-6. Haener completed 24 of 36 passes for 284 yards in his final game for Fresno State. The senior connected with Zane Pope on a 22-yard touchdown to complete the Bulldogs' opening possession. He added an 11-yard score to Nikko Remigio late in the third quarter to extend the lead to 22-6. Cameron Ward was 22 of 32 for 137 yards for Washington State (7-6). Nakia Watson rushed for 33 yards and had the Cougars only touchdown in the third quarter, when he scored from 1 yard to bring Washington State within 16-6. - Fresno State/AP College Football

Jake Haener threw for 184 yards and a touchdown, Nikko Remigio returned a punt 70 yards for a score, and Fresno State defeated Boise State 28-16 to win the Mountain West Conference championship Saturday afternoon. Fresno State (9-4) overcame a 1-4 start to the season and a rash of injuries to win its final eight games, claiming the program's third Mountain West crown. Boise State (9-4), which won 40-20 in the regular-season match-up between the teams, fell to 3-3 in Mountain West title games. Boise State controlled the game early but struggled to find the end zone, clinging to a 3-0 lead late in the first half. But that all changed when Fresno State scored two touchdowns in a span of 2:36 right before halftime.

Remigio's electric return snaking back and forth across the field sparked Fresno State before Cameron Lockridge intercepted the first of two passes, returning it 25 yards to the Broncos' 17-yard line. Three plays later, Jordan Mims scored on a 2-yard run to put the Bulldogs up 14-3. They never relinquished the lead. After Boise State edged within 14-9 in the third quarter, Fresno State tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. Jordan Mims scored touchdowns on runs of 4, 1 and 2 yards and Fresno State beat Wyoming 30-0 Friday night in the regular season finale for both teams. The Bulldogs (8-4, 7-1 Mountain West Conference), who have won seven consecutive games after losing four of five to open the season, play at Boise State in the Mountain West Conference championship game Dec. 3. Fresno State's four losses this season have all come against bowl-eligible teams - No. 21 Oregon State, No. 6 Southern California, Connecticut and Boise State.

Fresno State took the opening kickoff and went 66 yards - with the help of a personal foul and a pass interference penalty against the Cowboys - in five plays to take a 7-0 lead on Mims' first touchdown with 12:59 to play in the first quarter. Mac Dalena partially blocked a punt that gave the Bulldogs possession at the Wyoming 41 and eight plays later Jake Haener hit Nikko Remigio for a 6-yard touchdown before Evan Williams blocked another punt that went out of the end zone for a safety to make it 16-0 early in the second quarter. Malik Sherrod returned the ensuing free kick 50 yards and Mims 1-yard TD run made it 23-0 with 8:28 left in the first half. Jake Haener threw two touchdown passes and ran for a pair of 1-yard TDs and Fresno State beat Nevada 41-14 Saturday night to win the West division title an clinch a berth in the Mountain West Conference championship game. Fresno State (7-4, 6-1 Mountain West Conference), which has won six consecutive games following a four-game skid, plays at Mountain division champion Boise State for the conference title on Dec. 3. Nevada (2-9, 0-7) has lost nine games in a row, tied for the longest losing streak in program history. The Wolf Pack lost its first nine games in 1964. Jalen Moreno-Cropped had seven receptions for 136 yards and Jordan Mims added 19 carries for 156 yards rushing and a TD for Fresno State. Jake Haener passed for 313 yards and three touchdowns - including two long ones to Jalen Moreno-Cropper - and Fresno State held off UNLV 37-30 on Friday night. Quarterback Doug Brumfield's 5-yard touchdown run and field goals covering 43, 48 and 27 yards left UNLV leading 16-14 at halftime. Fresno State (6-4, 5-1 Mountain West Conference) kept pace with Haener's 33-yard scoring strike to Moreno-Cropper in the first quarter and Jordan Mims' 5-yard touchdown run in the second. The Bulldogs grabbed a 17-16 lead on their first drive of the third quarter when freshman Dylan Lynch capped a 12-play, 67-yard drive with a 26-yard field goal. Haener added a 2-yard touchdown toss to Zane Pope before Gutierrez booted his fourth field goal to leave UNLV (4-6, 2-4) trailing 24-19 heading to the final period.

Lynch kicked a 23-yard field goal to stretch the Bulldogs' lead to eight with 10:57 remaining, but Aidan Robbins answered with a 66-yard touchdown run and UNLV added the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 27 with 9:53 left. Fresno State needed just three plays to regain the lead for good, scoring on Haener's 65-yard scoring strike to Moreno-Cropper. Haener completed 28 of 36 passes for Fresno State. Jake Haener completed 24 of 29 passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns and Jordan Mims had 123 yards rushing and a TD on 18 carries to help Fresno State beat Hawaii 55-13 Saturday night. Abraham Montano kicked a 31-yard field goal to open the scoring midway through the first quarter and Cam Lockridge returned an interception 31 yards for a touchdown before Jordan Mims scored on a 22-yard run to make it 17-0 going into the second. Haener threw second-quarter touchdown passes of 7 yards to Jalen Moreno-Cropper and 16 yards to Erik Brooks to give Fresno State (5-4, 4-1 Mountain West Conference) a 31-0 lead at halftime.

Moreno-Cropper finished with five receptions for 93 yards and two TDs. The Bulldogs have won four in a row following a four-game losing streak. Nasjzae Bryant-Lelei scored on a 1-yard run to get Hawaii (2-8, 1-4) on the board with 3:46 to play and Tamatoa Mokiao-Atimalala caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Brayden Schager in the closing seconds.
